fast fin setup on a surfboard?

i was wondering if a twin fin or a tri fin setup is faster? i read somewhere that the more surface area in the water creates more drag but i am not very sure.

It is true that increased surface area equals increased drag. The speed lost due to drag can be compensated for by the angle of attack on the leading edge of the fins. Now, since I don’t have that good of a grasp on physics and hydrodynamics, I’d be lying if I gave you much more information that that.

There are lots of people out there with opinions, but in reality, almost all fin manufacturers scientifically design their fins and all of the big names make very efficient fins. Twin fins are scientifically faster in the turn, but as for going straight down the line, you better get the calculations from a physicist.

Of Fins And Masks In Puerto Vallarta

Some of the loveliest vacation rentals in Puerto Vallarta overlook the glittering water in Banderas Bay; it paints a beautiful backdrop that beckons to guests every time they step onto the balcony or ease into the hot tub to enjoy the city’s outdoor living. After one or two longing gazes in the direction of the beach and the bay, most guests grab their beach bags, stumble into flip-flops and clatter off in a westerly direction, chanting all the while, “Wait for me – I’m on my way!”

Upon arrival at sand’s edge, it’s not uncommon to blink once or twice at all the activity and wonder what to do first. Lizard types (those who like nothing more than to stretch out on a hot rock) might be inclined to spread out for some glorious rest and relaxation; thrill seekers may seek out a parasail adventure. What about those folks who want to do something that says, “I’ve stayed in vacation rentals in Puerto Vallarta, and I’ve spent time on the bay,” but they don’t want to risk life and limb having fun?

These are the folks who should consider a snorkeling expedition. It’s a great way to try out a new and modestly exotic sport; it brings enthusiasts face to face with colorful sea life; and it doesn’t require any particular skill (okay – snorkelers do need to be able to float). And for those who don’t choose to rent equipment, it doesn’t require much of an investment.

The equipment list includes a mask, a snorkel, swim fins, and a buoyancy device. It’s worthwhile to rent or purchase good equipment that fits well.

• Your mask should fit snugly around your face and nose. There is nothing more annoying than a mask that fills with water as soon as you go face down in the water. Side windows will allow you to see what’s swimming around beside you.
• Choose a snorkel with a float valve or flap to keep waves from splashing down your tube. A purge valve will let you get rid of unwanted water. Be sure the mouthpiece is comfortable in your mouth.
• Fins that fit snugly and a flotation device aren’t absolutely required, but they add an element of safety to the fun. A word of advice: don’t walk forward in fins; if you must put them on before you get in the water, back into the waves.
• Wear plenty of biodegradable sun block on your neck and back!
